Fu Yu had men ambush the secret passages, waiting only for an order to launch an attack from both inside and outside.
An Zhentian asked Chen Yuwei, “How many secret passages are there in here exactly?”
Chen Yuwei shook her head. “These are the only ones I know about!”
“I regret not hacking Fu Yu to death with a single blade! Now that he’s out, he’ll definitely attack immediately, and he knows this place far better than we do!” Just as An Zhentian finished speaking, the roar of artillery shook the sky outside.
“They’re here!” An Zhentian immediately ran out to engage in battle.
Wu Xiang frowned as he looked outside. He had fewer than two thousand men left, while another five thousand remained in Yucheng. They had no chance of winning the battle in Fancheng; after all, this was Fu Yu’s territory.
He had secretly ordered his men to trail behind the An Family Army.
An Zhentian still had five thousand men.
The An Family Army lay in ambush behind the city towers, hearing the gunfire of the Fu Family Army but seeing no one. While they were puzzled, they suddenly realized that outside the city gates, inside the towers, and beside the civilian houses—the Fu Family Army was everywhere!
This was Fu Yu’s stronghold, riddled with hidden mechanisms known only to Fu Yu, Liu Hao, and a select few.
After a dense volley of gunfire, the An and Wu armies suffered devastating casualties, leaving almost no survivors.
In less than two hours, Fu Yu led his men charging in. His eyes were completely bloodshot, filled with a murderous rage that made him want to slice them into a thousand pieces.
Before nightfall, Fu Yu and over ten thousand soldiers of the Fu Family Army had recaptured Fancheng!
An Zhentian’s army was nearly annihilated. Fu Yu refused to take prisoners, having them killed directly. His eyes brimmed with brutality, his mood incredibly foul!
Wu Xiang’s troops had fought very conservatively, leaving him with just over eight hundred men. They hid in Xing Courtyard, where Chen Yuwei lived and where Fu Yu’s mother had been hiding.
Chen Yuwei sat quietly at her vanity. The woman in the mirror was still breathtakingly beautiful, yet her eyes had already seen to the end of her life.
Her heart was in chaos. It was like a fire had burned down your house—you knew it was still your home, but you could no longer return to it, so you had to leave. Except the departure was filled with reluctance and sorrow.
Outside, the gunfire was intense. Wu Xiang ran in and told Chen Yuwei, “Get ready, we’re leaving here!”
“Can we still leave?” Chen Yuwei asked indifferently. She understood Fu Yu; as long as he was alive, they had no way out.
“What are you saying!” Wu Xiang glared at her fiercely.
In the West Garden, Fu Yu discovered An Zhentian. He was out of ammunition and tried to commit suicide with his last bullet, but Fu Yu shot him in the wrist.
Seeing Fu Yu, An Zhentian let out a torrent of curses!
Fu Yu ordered his men to tie An Zhentian up and called Jiang Mei over.
Jiang Mei followed closely behind Gu Ming.
“This man is An Zhentian. He is entirely responsible for your father’s death! Today, you call the shots. How do you want him to die? Drawn and quartered by five horses? Made into a sky lantern? Or sliced into a thousand pieces?”
“You’re saying my father’s death wasn’t a car accident?”
“Yes, it wasn’t an ordinary car accident. He orchestrated it.”
Jiang Mei swayed unsteadily, and Gu Ming gently caught her.
Fu Yu turned his face away. “I’ll make the decision for you! Men, have An Zhentian drawn and quartered!”
Jiang Mei nearly fainted.
“Fu Yu, what the hell are you making Jiang Mei watch!” Gu Ming cursed in rage.
Fu Yu was even more of a bandit than he was!
“I want her to execute her enemy with her own hands! She is my woman; she should be able to bear this!” Fu Yu said with a cold face.
“She hasn’t been your woman for a long time!” Gu Ming pulled Jiang Mei away to a place where they couldn’t see An Zhentian.
Jiang Mei heard An Zhentian violently cursing, followed moments later by a series of heart-wrenching, agonizing screams. The cursing abruptly ceased, leaving a chilling silence.
Jiang Mei trembled uncontrollably, and Gu Ming held her tightly.
An Zhentian’s army was entirely wiped out.
Fu Yu killed every single one of his men, leaving not even a scrap behind. Wu Xiang led his men to flee through the West Gate; he was very familiar with the layout of the Fu Family Villa.
Under the cover of his remaining five hundred-plus soldiers, Wu Xiang and Chen Yuwei had just exited the West Gate when Fu Yu’s men caught up. Chen Yuwei’s steps were faltering; dragging her along, they truly couldn’t get far.
From a distance, Fu Yu spotted Wu Xiang. He was tall; a few months ago, when he kidnapped Jiang Mei, Fu Yu had chased him, but unfortunately, he had gotten away.
Suddenly, Chen Yuwei cried out and crouched down. “What’s wrong?” Wu Xiang’s voice was frantic.
“My stomach hurts. I think it’s the baby…”
Wu Xiang turned and reached out, trying to pull Chen Yuwei onto his horse.
*Bang! Bang!* Fu Yu fired a few shots. Seeing the large contingent of cavalry galloping toward him, Wu Xiang looked up at the sky and sighed heavily.
“Yuwei, Fu Yu probably won’t kill you. When I get the chance, I’ll come back for you!”
He turned and galloped away with his remaining hundreds of men!
Chen Yuwei stood there, dazed. “Wu Xiang, Wu Xiang!”
Fu Yu swept past her like a gust of wind, without even looking at her. She and he were already strangers, even enemies.
Protecting her belly, Chen Yuwei stood there all alone.
Fu Yu led his men in pursuit. At this point, he absolutely could not let Wu Xiang return to Yucheng.
Just moments ago, he had already dispatched troops to attack Yucheng.
The intelligence he wanted Fan Dalong to receive was that he had annihilated both Yucheng and Zhaishan! He couldn’t give Fan Dalong any illusions or opportunities.
Beads of sweat the size of soybeans rolled down Chen Yuwei’s face. Jiang Mei took her back to her room and called for a military doctor.
The Old Madam Fu had already been rescued and was completely unharmed. Miraculously, Yuan Jun had been with her. He had a leg injury, an arm injury, and two gunshot wounds to his stomach. He was on the verge of death, but he was still alive.
The doctor gave Chen Yuwei medicine to stabilize her pregnancy. Her face deathly pale, she kept her eyes closed, unable to accept that Wu Xiang would abandon her!
He had always claimed everything he did was for her.
Back then, he was just a young apprentice under her father. Though poor, he was incredibly smart and knew some martial arts, earning her father’s high regard.
Her father just never realized he had always coveted his only daughter.
When her father eventually flew into a rage, he drove Wu Xiang away.
Wu Xiang had sworn to Chen Yuwei that he would make a name for himself and then marry her!
He later defected to Tian Weiguo in Yucheng, and within a year, he became highly valued by Tian Weiguo.
Meanwhile, Fu Yu, whom her father had constantly curried favor with, ultimately didn’t marry her. He abandoned her for Jiang Mei. But later, her father told her that Fu Yu had never forgotten her, and she believed it was true.
She schemed her way back to Fu Yu’s side, and he abandoned Jiang Mei to marry her. But everything had lost its flavor. She had always believed the only person who would never abandon her was Wu Xiang. He had protected her with the loyalty of a dog, yet today, even he had abandoned her!
