A Space Marine Got a Status Window
When the infected were discussed, governments normally limited themselves to saying just one thing.
“The Mog Virus is extremely dangerous, so we must take every possible precaution to avoid becoming infected!”
That was all.
They didn’t explain exactly how dangerous the Mog Virus actually was.
And Space Marines, like the other people who worked in space, didn’t usually take it too seriously either.
However, those who had actually faced the infected all said the same thing without exception.
“The infected are extremely dangerous. Very dangerous. This is seriously dangerous. No matter how dangerous you think it is, it’s actually about a hundred times worse!”
Kim Seojun thought exactly the same thing.
He had already faced the infected.
And not simply normal infected.
Kim Seojun had faced an infected Psyker.
Of course, he hadn’t known from the beginning that it was an infected Psyker when he was sent on that mission.
No matter how obsessed Kim Seojun had been with risk bonuses, he wasn’t crazy enough to respond.
“Yes! Understood!”
If someone had told him.
“Go fight an infected Psyker!”
He had simply responded to a request for support that said.
“We’re fighting a fierce battle against the Mog and need reinforcements!”
And when he arrived at the location, he was horrified to see that among the Mog was an infected Psyker rampaging like a madman.
So he ran away.
Furthermore, the world never learned what Kim Seojun had experienced that day.
As soon as he returned to his unit, someone sent by the higher-ups appeared and told him.
“If you keep your mouth shut about what you saw today, we’ll add another zero to the risk bonus we deposit into your account. If you refuse, on the other hand, we’ll apply all kinds of taxes to the money you’ve received so far.”
Naturally, Kim Seojun accepted, and since then he had kept his mouth completely shut about that matter.
In any case, that experience had taught him just how absurdly terrifying the Mog Virus really was.
So terrifying that the government was willing to spend enormous amounts of money to publicly downplay its danger.
‘Fuck, no matter how complicated things get, they shouldn’t get this bad!’
That was why, as soon as he heard the notifications from the Status Window, Kim Seojun had only one thought.
‘I have to get the hell out of here. No matter what.’
Not fight.
Run away.
He didn’t even need to think about it too much.
It was true that losing the Polish headquarters would be a shame, but that only mattered as long as the headquarters remained intact and there were survivors capable of keeping it operational.
The same was true of the new event mission.
A Platinum Ticket?
It was a reward capable of driving anyone crazy.
Saying he didn’t want it would have been a lie.
‘Fuck the reward and all that shit.’
But Kim Seojun knew perfectly well that excessive greed led to ruin.
It was impossible for him not to know.
He had seen countless times, from very close by, how those who allowed themselves to be consumed by greed ended up.
Kim Seojun himself had become a Space Marine because of his obsession with money.
If he had managed to survive until then, it was precisely because he had known how to recognize that delicate limit.
The line he must never cross.
And now that line was right in front of him.
The best thing to do was abandon all his plans and retreat immediately.
Kim Seojun acted as soon as he reached that conclusion.
He addressed the survivors in front of him.
“This is an emergency. Everyone must evacuate.”
It was then.
— Sergeant Kim!
Park Boseop’s urgent voice rang out over the radio.
As soon as he heard it, Kim Seojun immediately understood what was happening.
“Is Major Lee Hyena fighting?”
— What? H-How did you know?
As soon as he heard Park Boseop’s answer, Kim Seojun began to run.
From the moment Kim Seojun entered the Polish headquarters, Lee Hyena had remained outside waiting.
Seeing her there, Park Boseop felt safer than ever.
“With you protecting us, Major, I suppose we won’t have any problems.”
Lee Hyena thought the same thing.
“Don’t let your guard down.”
Although she said that, to be honest, she didn’t expect any serious problems to arise there either.
‘Sergeant Kim Seojun will take care of everything.’
That was how much confidence she had in Kim Seojun.
For many reasons, it didn’t seem like there was anything to worry about.
Beep, beep, beep, beep!
“Huh?”
But all those thoughts disappeared when one of the indicators in the military truck where Park Boseop was began fluctuating wildly.
“Hey, hey, hey!”
Park Boseop shouted in surprise when he saw it.
“I-It’s appeared!”
At that voice trembling as though an earthquake had occurred, Lee Hyena, who was sitting in the back of the military truck, immediately grabbed her axe, got out of the vehicle, and asked.
“What class?”
“Fly-class!”
Upon hearing the answer, Lee Hyena mentally prepared herself.
If it was only Fly-class, she could fight it.
But then.
“No, no!”
Park Boseop saw the indicator needle begin fluctuating even more violently and shouted at the top of his lungs.
“It’s Feather-class!”
As soon as she heard that answer, Lee Hyena’s expression hardened.
And for good reason.
Although there was only one category of difference between Fly-class and Feather-class, in practice, the difference didn’t feel like a single level.
They were in completely different leagues.
Lee Hyena was quite capable even among Psykers, but a Feather-class individual wasn’t an easy enemy for her either.
Of course, that didn’t mean she was thinking of retreating.
It wasn’t the first time she had faced a Feather-class, and furthermore, Lee Hyena had already considered the possibility of finding herself in such a situation.
‘It wouldn’t be strange for anything to happen anymore. Especially now that even infected have appeared.’
Planet Amotia had already become a place where ordinary common sense had ceased to function.
A place that, within a few years, many soldiers and civilians would say of.
“That planet Amotia was hell.”
She was prepared to face anything that appeared, whether Mogdogs, Thorn Snakes, or anything else.
“Come!”
Lee Hyena loudly expressed her determination.
And then she saw it.
Uuuuuugh!
Space Marines equipped with battle suits were running toward them while making grotesque sounds.
Lee Hyena froze at the sight.
“Huh?”
Park Boseop reacted the same way.
“Ah……”
And Jan Zabłocki, who was already half mentally absent, fell into even greater despair as soon as he saw them.
Because those were Polish Space Marines.
They had been Jan Zabłocki’s subordinates, friends, and comrades-in-arms.
The very same people for whom he had been willing to sacrifice his life!
But now they had become infected.
They were running toward them looking barely any different from the Mog.
And they were doing it to kill both Jan Zabłocki and the people who had saved his life.
“My God.”
At that moment, even Jan Zabłocki couldn’t help but turn to God.
Lee Hyena was no different.
Even she, who was rarely shaken by anything, couldn’t help but shudder at such a situation.
And above all, that wasn’t the end.
At that moment, Lee Hyena remembered what Kim Seojun had told her.
‘If a Psyker had become infected……’
The situation he had described as the worst of all.
And it didn’t take long for that situation to become reality before her very eyes.
Lee Hyena saw him.
A Psyker dressed in a black Agent Suit.
‘Damn it.’
As soon as she saw him, Lee Hyena’s expression hardened more than ever.
It was then.
Jan Zabłocki shouted.
“Major Lee Hyena! He’s a Psyker! He’s Jakub Mazur, a Polish Psyker! He specializes in close combat, and among those, he’s a tanker type!”
Information about each country’s Psykers was top secret, and leaking that information carried extremely severe punishment under military law.
However, Major Jan Zabłocki no longer cared about that.
He was simply trying to provide Lee Hyena with as much information as possible to help her in any way he could.
Of course, even without those words, Lee Hyena had understood what kind of Psyker she was facing as soon as she saw him.
For starters, the black Agent Suit he wore differed from conventional Agent Suits in terms of its purpose.
It was an Agent Suit that had completely sacrificed mobility to focus exclusively on defense.
The so-called Block Suit.
“He uses an axe!”
Furthermore, he held a gigantic axe in his hands.
Upon seeing it, Lee Hyena made a sound.
“Tsk!”
A sharp click of her tongue.
Naturally, that was the worst possible situation.
An opponent who would already have been difficult for Lee Hyena under normal circumstances had now appeared as an infected.
Considering that people infected with the Mog Virus didn’t die unless their heads were destroyed and that, furthermore, their physical capabilities increased, it was terrifying.
And as if that weren’t enough, the Space Marines had also become infected and were charging toward Lee Hyena’s group like Mogdogs.
If she suffered a wound and the bodily fluids of any of them came into contact with her, she would face the worst possible scenario.
‘We have to retreat.’
That was why Lee Hyena immediately understood the best decision she could make.
“We’ll retreat.”
And she intended to choose that option.
“As soon as Sergeant Kim Seojun returns.”
When the two people remaining in the military truck heard her, neither objected.
If they escaped at that moment, it was far too obvious who those infected would attack.
“Major, but……”
“I’m not stupid enough to fight an infected Psyker head-on. I’ll fight while avoiding his attacks.”
Of course, that didn’t mean Lee Hyena had the slightest intention of risking everything in a confrontation with no possibility of retreat.
“I’ll only eliminate the Space Marines.”
In other words, she intended to dodge the infected Psyker’s attacks while taking care of the lesser enemies.
It wasn’t impossible.
The infected Psyker had sacrificed his mobility.
Lee Hyena, on the other hand, had chosen mobility.
She only had to attack and retreat!
And Lee Hyena immediately put that plan into action.
She ignored the infected Psyker and began rapidly eliminating the infected Space Marines charging toward them.
Crack!
Every time she swung her axe, the Space Marines’ heads burst like watermelons.
Blood and brain matter splattered in every direction, and naturally, Lee Hyena’s body ended up completely covered in them.
In other words, Lee Hyena’s body was covered in the Mog Virus.
That meant that if, at that moment, her body—or rather, her suit—suffered even a tiny scratch, she would face a terrifying situation!
It was enough to send chills down one’s spine.
Grrrrrr!
And something even more chilling was that the infected Psyker continued moving again and again with the intention of killing Lee Hyena.
Watching the situation from a distance, both Private First Class Park Boseop and Major Jan Zabłocki felt chills throughout their bodies.
“Major Jan, isn’t there any way to help her?”
Park Boseop, who had reported the situation to Sergeant Kim Seojun a short while earlier, asked desperately.
He thought that perhaps Jan Zabłocki could give him an answer.
And in fact, Jan Zabłocki, who could be considered a veteran hardened by countless battles, knew what the answer was.
“If we intervene, we’ll only get in the way of Major Lee Hyena’s movements.”
A driver and a hover rider interfering in the battle of a Psyker who was concentrating all her senses on fighting wouldn’t help.
They would only be a hindrance.
“The only way we can help Major Lee Hyena is to pick up Sergeant Kim Seojun as soon as he arrives and get out of here at full speed.”
At that cold assessment, Park Boseop tightly gripped the steering wheel of the military truck.
‘Sergeant, get here quickly. Please, hurry.’
It was then.
“Private First Class Park Boseop.”
“Huh?”
He heard a voice.
Park Boseop immediately responded.
“Sergeant Kim Seojun! Hurry! Major Lee Hyena is buying us time!”
Naturally, Park Boseop thought Kim Seojun was speaking from somewhere far away over the radio.
Precisely because of that.
“Private First Class Park Boseop.”
“Sergeant Kim! Hurry!”
“I’m already here.”
“What?”
“I’m right beside you.”
Knock, knock!
As he spoke, Kim Seojun knocked on the driver’s door of the military truck as though knocking on a door.
When Park Boseop saw him, he jumped in surprise.
“S-Sergeant?”
Jan Zabłocki, who was beside him, was also surprised.
“Private First Class Park Boseop.”
“Yes! Get in immediately! We’re getting the hell out of here!”
At Kim Seojun’s call, Park Boseop gripped the steering wheel even tighter.
At the same time, he lightly pressed the accelerator.
He was clearly demonstrating his intention to get out of there as quickly as possible.
“I have a question.”
“Yes?”
However, at Kim Seojun’s unexpected question, Park Boseop froze.
Kim Seojun asked.
“Can you drive other things?”
“Other things?”
“I mean military vehicles.”
Park Boseop instinctively replied.
“Among the things in the military that have wheels, I can operate practically anything. Ah, that doesn’t mean I’m good at it! I only know how to make them move! I definitely can’t handle them like a car or a hover bike!”
Even after answering, Park Boseop felt that perhaps he had said something he shouldn’t have and hurriedly tried to justify himself.
Kim Seojun asked him.
“Then can you also drive a battle tank?”
“What? A tank?”
At that question, Park Boseop nodded first.
“I know how to make one move. The Poles also use the Black Panther manufactured by our country, so I can do it without any problems…… Huh?”
Only after answering did Park Boseop finally realize a very serious problem.
“W-Wait, S-Sergeant Kim…… you’re not thinking……?”
Because there could only be one reason why Kim Seojun was asking such a question at that moment.
“That’s right.”
And Kim Seojun explained it without any problem.
“I’m going to kill that infected Psyker with a battle tank.”
