Chapter 8
The deafening gunshot exploded almost right next to my ear.
I closed my eyes.
My heart pounded and constricted rapidly.
I almost gave myself away, almost screamed out loud.
But I held still, not moving a muscle.
I knew that if I made even the slightest sound, I would face death again.
So I dug my nails into my palm and endured.
I even patted the henchman’s shoulder in confusion, asking him with my eyes, “Why aren’t we moving?”
The henchman nodded at Dan Tuo.
Then continued walking forward.
Phew, I managed to bluff my way through for now.
After walking through a corridor, he led me upstairs to the second floor and pointed at a dark red door.
The henchman said sinisterly, “Go on, be quick about it.”
I regulated my breathing, pushed the door open, and stepped inside—
