Chapter 6
I was the third prey Gu Yueyue targeted.
One afternoon in early July, I was having tea at a cafe with my girlfriend when I noticed a woman staring at me. She was wearing a miniskirt and a pale blue ribbon in her hair; with her fair skin and delicate features, she looked like a girl straight out of a manga. But perhaps it was just my imagination, but I felt a hint of coldness in her eyes. When our gazes met, she gave me a sweet smile. Feeling a bit awkward, I looked back down at my magazine.
While my girlfriend was in the restroom, she slid into the seat opposite me and asked in a flirtatious tone, “Hey handsome, was that girl your sister or your girlfriend?”
“Does it matter to you?” I looked at her indifferently.
“Of course it does. If she’s your sister, I’ll have to get on her good side—she might become my sister-in-law, after all.”
“She’s my girlfriend,” I replied politely.
“I see.” She looked momentarily flustered, but quickly regained her composure. “That’s okay. Let’s be friends, okay? My name is Gu Yueyue.”
She extended a slender, porcelain arm, her watery eyes looking at me with enthusiasm.
“I’m Yin Chen.”
The moment we shook hands, a slip of paper slid into my sleeve. Gu Yueyue smiled with satisfaction and slowly walked back to her seat.
I didn’t call her, but to my surprise, I ran into her again the next day. Just as I was leaving a restaurant after a meal, someone tapped me lightly on the shoulder.
“What a coincidence, little brother. Where’s your girlfriend?” Gu Yueyue had changed into an outfit that looked like a school uniform. Her face was practically pressed against my neck, and the pungent scent of her perfume made me frown.
“Are you stalking me?” I asked coldly.
“How could I? I just happened to be eating here. I think… it’s fate that brought us together again. Tell you what, I’ll give you a chance to treat me to some ice cream.”
Every glance, every coquettish word, every subtle gesture—they were all like precision-guided weapons.
She was used to this kind of hunting, breaking down a man’s defenses.
“Not interested.”
I turned and walked away, ignoring the shifting expressions on her face.
Shakespeare once suggested that to make a proud person see their true face, one must use another’s pride as a mirror. If I were to bow and scrape before her, it would only fuel her arrogance and bring me nothing but humiliation.
Just as I was about to enter the elevator, a scream rang out behind me. I couldn’t help but look back. Gu Yueyue was half-kneeling on the floor, blood trickling down her calf from a scrape on her knee. She looked utterly pitiful. I approached her, reached out to grab her arm, and asked, “Are you okay? Do you need to see a doctor?”
Gu Yueyue let out a few moans, staring at me resentfully. “It hurts so much…”
Any ordinary guy would have started imagining things after hearing that.
I asked, “Can you walk on your own? I have things to do; I can’t stay here.”
“How can you be like this? Look at me, do I look like I can walk? You should at least take me home.” Gu Yueyue rolled her eyes at me, her expression pained, yet there was an unconscious excitement at the corner of her mouth.
“Fine, I’ll call a car for you.”
I helped her into the elevator. The moment the doors closed, she pretended to lose her balance and pressed her entire body against me. I could feel her rapid breathing. I used my arm to keep her face away from mine, but I didn’t anticipate that, at that exact moment, she would pull out her phone and snap a photo of our “intimate” embrace.
