Chapter 4
As I stood before Chu Ge’s motorcycle, my mind was still a bit dazed.
How did I end up coming out with him?
Chu Ge, the son of Uncle Chu, a family friend, and my childhood playmate. He was unreliable from a young age, doing everything a playboy could.
A few years ago, probably around the time I left home chasing Zeng Yicheng, he went straight abroad to become a freelance photographer.
In recent years, I rarely heard from him, at most receiving a few photos he’d taken, seeing which country he’d recently visited, what landscapes he’d captured, and so on.
Occasionally, there were also some portraits where the faces weren’t clear.
Chu Ge patted the motorcycle’s back seat and casually tossed me a helmet: “Coming up or not?”
I pointed to my high heels and evening gown: “Are you sure?”
“Tsk, what a hassle.” Chu Ge jumped down and unbuttoned his jacket.
The next second, he reached out and wrapped his arm around my waist. The closeness made my heart pound.
My heart jolted, and I couldn’t help but tilt my head slightly, seeing the faint stubble on his chin. Chu Ge’s breath reached me, both strange and familiar.
It wasn’t just me who had changed these past few years, but him too.
He was more mature and more charming.
Before I could push him away, Chu Ge’s jacket was quickly tied around my waist. Then he stepped back a few paces, flashing an innocent smile: “Xiaoxiao, your waist is still so slender.”
Mature? Charming? It must have been my imagination after all…
“Shut up!” I glared at him and obediently sat on the motorcycle.
Spending time with Chu Ge was my parents’ idea. If it could put their minds at ease, I chose to comply.
The bike shot forward, the wind constantly whipping past my neck. This feeling, almost like flying, immediately made me understand why some people were so fond of such sports.
My heart couldn’t help but lighten.
But gradually, I realized something was wrong.
An almost instinctive panic washed over me, seeping into my limbs like icy seawater. I couldn’t help but tremble slightly.
It turned out that, without realizing it, Chu Ge had driven the motorcycle almost to the place where I had my car accident.
Chu Ge finally stopped at the foot of a nearby mountain; we had only passed that stretch of road.
Even so, cold sweat covered my entire body.
We reached the mountaintop, where the view was expansive and the stars were charmingly beautiful. But he almost immediately noticed something was wrong with me.
His deep eyes looked at me, as if seeing into my soul.
“Xiaoxiao, what’s wrong with you?”
I knew he wasn’t asking about what was happening now, or rather, not *just* what was happening now.
Suddenly, I had an impulse.
This matter had been weighing on my heart for too long. If there was an outlet to confide in…
“I have a friend…”
I told Chu Ge the whole thing as a story.
Chu Ge was silent for a moment, then suddenly asked in a hoarse voice, “What does your friend think? Has she considered revenge?”
I nodded frankly: “She has.”
He suddenly smiled, reached out, and ruffled my hair: “My Xiaoxiao hasn’t changed much, still that silly girl.”
I suddenly realized something was off. Chu Ge had already taken my hand: “Don’t be afraid, I’ll be with you.”
“You’ve helped me clean up so many messes since we were kids, it’s my turn to repay you.”
At that moment, I gave up explaining. It seemed Chu Ge had known about Zeng Yicheng’s betrayal all along.

Chapter 4
When I stood in front of Chu Ge’s motorcycle, I still felt a bit dazed.
How did I end up coming out with him?
Chu Ge, the son of my family’s old friend Uncle Chu, was a childhood friend who had been a troublemaker since he was little, doing everything a playboy could possibly do.
A few years ago, around the time I chased after Zeng Yicheng and left home, he had gone abroad to become a freelance photographer.
I rarely heard from him over the years, at most receiving a few photos he’d taken, seeing which country he’d visited or what scenery he’d captured.
Occasionally, there were photos of people whose faces were blurred.
Chu Ge patted the back seat of the motorcycle and tossed me a helmet: “Aren’t you getting on?”
I pointed at my high heels and gown: “Are you sure?”
“Tsk, what a hassle.” Chu Ge jumped off and immediately unzipped his jacket.
In the next second, he reached out and wrapped his arm around my waist. The distance between us was dizzying.
I was startled and couldn’t help but look up slightly; I could see the fine stubble on his chin. Chu Ge’s breath washed over me—it felt both strange and familiar.
It wasn’t just me who had changed over the years; he had, too.
He was more mature and even more charming.
Before I could push him away, Chu Ge’s jacket was quickly tied around my waist. He then took a few steps back, flashing an innocent smile: “Xiaoxiao, your waist is still as slim as ever.”
So much for maturity and charm—it must have been my imagination after all…
“Shut up!” I glared at him and obediently sat on the motorcycle.
Spending time with Chu Ge was my parents’ idea, and if it would put their minds at ease, I chose to comply.
The bike shot forward, the wind constantly whipping past my neck. This feeling, akin to flying, made me understand almost instantly why some people were so addicted to this sport.
My heart couldn’t help but feel lighter.
But gradually, I noticed something was wrong.
A near-instinctive panic washed over me, soaking through my limbs like cold seawater. I couldn’t help but tremble slightly.
Without realizing it, Chu Ge had driven the motorcycle almost to the place where I had my car accident.
Chu Ge finally stopped at the foot of a mountain nearby; we had only passed by that stretch of road.
Even that was enough to break me out in a cold sweat.
We reached the top of the mountain. The view was wide, and the stars were charming and lovely, but he realized something was wrong with me almost immediately.
His deep eyes looked at me, as if he could see right into my heart.
“Xiaoxiao, what is actually wrong with you?”
I knew he wasn’t asking about the present moment—or at least, not just about the present.
I suddenly felt an urge.
This matter had been weighing on my heart for too long. If only there were an outlet to pour it all out…
“I have a friend…”
I told Chu Ge the story as if it were about someone else.
Chu Ge was silent for a while, then suddenly asked in a hoarse voice: “That friend of yours, what does she think? Has she thought about revenge?”
I nodded honestly: “She has.”
He suddenly smiled and reached out to ruffle my hair: “My Xiaoxiao hasn’t changed much; she’s still that silly girl.”
I suddenly realized what was wrong. Chu Ge had already taken my hand: “Don’t be afraid, I’m with you.”
“You’ve helped me clean up so many messes since we were kids; it’s time for me to return the favor.”
At that moment, I gave up on explaining. Come to think of it, Chu Ge must have known all along that Zeng Yicheng had betrayed me.
