Chapter 7
When I finished speaking, I turned to leave, but Meng Yi City grabbed my wrist.
He couldn’t break free.
At that moment, a surge of strength yanked his arm away—Chu Ke pushed through, shielding me.
Looking up at his back, I felt an inexplicable sense of peace.
“Break up properly, at least make it dignified. Otherwise, this dear younger sister has been plotting all this time—it’s heartbreaking!”
“What do you mean?” Meng Yi City looked near collapse.
Chu Ke glanced at us with a half-smile, then tossed a file onto Meng Yi City and spoke to Ning Kexin:
“You used to look down on Meng Yi City as a poor boy, abandoned him when he went abroad. When your family went bankrupt last year and you unexpectedly learned of his success, you tried to reclaim him.”
Ning Kexin’s face changed instantly.
Chu Ke gripped my hand: “You two have no bottom—unbelievable. But for my Xiao Xiao to suffer like this? Unforgivable.”
I blinked in surprise. Has Chu Ke been busy with this all these days?
He looked at me, his eyes bright as stars: “It’s settled. Let’s go home.”
I clasped his hand and smiled: “Alright.”
Before leaving, I glanced back at Meng Yi City—he stood rigid like a weathered statue, fading into gray.
This time, Chu Ke drove me past that road, and I no longer felt afraid.
When we stopped, I realized this wasn’t my apartment—it was my home.
The garden was lit up like a sea of lights, with countless roses—every girl’s dream scene.
Chu Ke proposed, his parents and mine were present.
Looking at him, I couldn’t imagine that mischievous child from years ago growing up like this.
Even before I figured out my feelings for him, I caught my parents’ expectant expressions.
I nodded, accepting.
Chu Ke spun me around, until I laughed and patted him, then set me down. He then gathered his things and moved into my apartment, his excuse being “nurturing our relationship.”
That seemed fitting—I’d grown up with Chu Ke, our families were united, and we had our parents’ blessings.
The previous project had concluded, and I didn’t pursue it further. My assistant reported it was won by Meng Yi City’s company.
I wasn’t surprised. Though my father helped him, Meng Yi City was truly outstanding, with remarkable abilities.
I took over the charity department of Ling Group. This time’s event required us to visit a remote charity school in the mountains.
Chu Ke wanted to go for fresh air and insisted on coming with me.
I couldn’t refuse him, so I agreed.
