My Life is Not Yours to Control Chapter 9

Chapter 9

Chu Ge had suffered a head injury. He underwent surgery, and the doctor said the condition was serious—he might not wake up.

I stayed by his bedside, praying for a miracle, hoping he’d regain consciousness.

But when I returned after lunch, I found a blonde woman sitting by Chu Ge’s bed. Her long, flowing blonde hair and red, form-fitting dress made her look stunning.

She was gently running her fingers over Chu Ge’s face, looking very close.

It seemed Chu Ge had indeed been active in the romance department during his years abroad.

Somehow, I felt a lump in my throat and turned to leave.

She noticed me, straightened up, as if she’d known all along: “Oh, it’s you.”

I could only turn back.

I knew her name was Rebecca. They’d met a few years ago in Africa when she was harassed by thugs and he’d saved her. After that, they’d spent a wonderful time together, and he’d never met anyone as nice as Chu Ge since.

She smiled nostalgically: “We had a really wonderful time. I never met a nicer guy than Chu Ge…”

I stared at Chu Ge—if he woke up now, I’d knock him out with just a glance.

“Too bad he’s always had someone on his mind.”

“Who?” I asked listlessly.

Rebecca fell silent. I realized then what she meant.

She tugged at her hair, laughing coyly: “Do you want to come see some stuff with me?”

I followed her to a house. Compared to Rebecca’s vibrant appearance, the interior was starkly plain.

She pulled out a box, retrieving a book and a photo. When I saw the photo, I nearly held my breath.

It was a picture of me and Chu Ge, taken at our high school graduation. He had his arm around me, while I was annoyed and trying to push him away. The moment was frozen in time.

Holding the photo, I remained silent for a long while. The edges had yellowed with age, yet it was preserved so carefully. Whoever kept it must have cared deeply.

“If it weren’t for his accident, we might never have met,” Rebecca said with a slight smile, her expression still nostalgic.

“You’ve made me pretty jealous.”
