Chapter 1
Jolting awake from my dream in the middle of the night, I was covered in cold sweat. Clutching my wildly beating heart, I looked at the man sleeping soundly beside me.
I never imagined I would be reborn and return to a week before my death.
I vividly remembered the day I died: the massive collision, the roar of the fire, the cold operating table…
But none of that compared to the despair in my heart.
That day was our four-year anniversary. A friend secretly told me that Zeng Yicheng had booked a famous couples’ restaurant and even saw him buying a diamond ring with her own eyes.
Filled with sweet anticipation for his proposal, I arrived at the venue early, wanting to give him a surprise.
But little did I know that was the beginning of my nightmare.
I watched with my own eyes as he, with a gentle expression, kissed another woman and slipped the ring onto her finger.
It was his first love, Ning Kexin.
I watched them embrace and head to a hotel. On my phone was Zeng Yicheng’s apologetic voice message: “Working overtime tonight, I won’t be coming back.”
Devastated, I drove off, my eyes blurred with tears. In a moment of distraction, I crashed under a semi-truck.
On the very night they got back together, sweet and loving, I died on a cold operating table.
Turning my head to look at Zeng Yicheng, this was the man I had loved for my entire youth. He was still as handsome and dashing, but I only felt my heart turn to cold ashes.
I stayed awake the entire night.
In the morning, before Zeng Yicheng left for work, he leaned in for his usual good morning kiss, but I dodged it.
“Let’s break up.” When I said those words, I suddenly felt a wave of relief.
A flash of surprise crossed Zeng Yicheng’s face, then he asked calmly, “Why so sudden? Did something happen?”
He looked at me searchingly, but his phone rang tirelessly, over and over again. I caught a glimpse of the name on the screen: Xinxin.
He squeezed my shoulder, telling me to wait until he got back to talk, and then hurriedly left.
Without a trace of hesitation left, I packed all my luggage and returned to my luxury apartment.
I didn’t regret loving Zeng Yicheng; he was all the flutter and passion of my youth.
But I won’t love him anymore.
I am going to dig him out of my heart, piece by piece.
