I kept watch by Qin Yiheng’s bedside all night, but when I woke up in the morning, I was already in my own bed, tucked in tightly.

Qin Yiheng was gone, and a trace of disappointment flickered in my heart.

For the second time, I hadn’t had the chance to say a proper goodbye.

After returning, the preparations for Lan Nianhua’s marriage began in full swing, and my mother’s health improved significantly; her full recovery was just around the corner.

Everything had a sense of promise. Whenever I had time, I would stay at that residence, looking forward to seeing Qin Yiheng.

I didn’t care about status, nor did I care about rumors. Living this life again was a gift; as long as I could be connected to him, I would gladly accept any fate.

When I finally saw Qin Yiheng again, his wounds had healed. He was dressed impeccably, as elegant as ever.

“You saved me, and I can grant you one thing.”

I hesitated for a moment before gathering my courage: “I want my mother and brother to leave the Lan family.”

Qin Yiheng tapped his fingers on the table, saying nothing. I grew increasingly anxious.

I knew this request was absurd. The Lan family was thriving, and for me, a daughter, to want my mother and brother to leave—it must have seemed like I had lost my mind.

But Qin Yiheng didn’t ask any questions and simply agreed. He looked at me with a faint, inscrutable smile: “You really are different from other women.”

I let out a long sigh of relief. With his promise, I knew my mother and brother would be safe.

I knelt and performed a formal, sincere bow: “I cannot repay your kindness, Your Highness. I am willing to do anything for you.”

Qin Yiheng seemed to be deep in thought. He let out a slow laugh: “Get up. You don’t need to kneel to me.”

He seemed to have urgent matters to attend to and left shortly after. I knew it must have been related to that assassination attempt.

Not long after, my mother and brother “passed away” from illness, but in secret, they were taken away and settled by people sent by Qin Yiheng. I could finally set my heart at ease.
