Two years ago, I owed a lot, a whole lot of money.

I brought Tuotuo to hide in this old residential complex.

I had told Grandma Li that if any strangers came looking for me, she should tell them I’d moved away.

It seems she still remembered.

A moment later, Jin Lan’s deep voice rose again: “Then do you know where she lives now?”

Grandma Li’s cane went “thump-thump” against the floor; she didn’t seem prepared to entertain him any further.

I heard the shadow under the door crack remain silent for a long time.
