“Go knock on his door and make him answer the phone.” I don’t know if it was because I’d lost too much blood.

My teeth were chattering.

I felt freezing cold.

Shen Qi took off his jacket and draped it over me, then crouched down: “Sister Qi, stop being difficult.

“Can we just go to the hospital first?”

Over on Li Qiu’s end, there seemed to be the sound of footsteps, followed by knocking on a door.

They knocked for a long time.

No one answered.

I hung up the phone, limping and enduring the sharp pain as I shuffled toward the exit.

When I reached the door, Shen Qi strode over and, ignoring my protests, swept me up into his arms.

At the hospital, while they were stitching me up, I had an allergic reaction to the anesthetic halfway through.

With half the wound still open, they had to switch to a different anesthetic.

I gritted my teeth and told the doctor to just stitch it up raw.

By the time the last stitch was in, I was drenched in sweat, looking like I’d been fished out of a pool.

Shen Qi whispered: “Sister Qi, it’s okay if you want to cry.”

I looked at him and tugged at the corners of my mouth, offering a smile as pale and ghastly as a ghost’s.
