Chapter 10
As soon as those words came out, the room fell silent for a moment.
Cui Miao chimed in, “Yeah, you can’t give the grad spot to someone like her.”
The counselor was sweating profusely, and the other leaders exchanged glances. Fortunately, Qu Fang had no connections with them.
This kind of thing was pre-decided internally and hadn’t been announced yet anyway. The counselor pulled my mom out separately, offering to transfer the recommendation spot to me in exchange for not calling the police, as it would look bad for the school’s reputation.
I agreed.
Qu Fang was stripped of her grad recommendation on the spot, and it was transferred to me. Exasperated and furious, she tried to curse at me, but was scolded by the counselor and dragged away.
I exhaled a breath of stale air, finally feeling a bit better. My mom couldn’t sit still and wanted to go play mahjong.
I waved her off. Perfect, now it was just me and Lin Ruijie in the ward.
I had questions for him.
“You did that on purpose?”
He was the first to break the simmering tension between us. I nodded. “Is that not allowed?”
“Why investigate her? Get close to her? Seek revenge on her?”
I didn’t hide anything. I told him all about how she seduced my dad and how she transferred my family’s assets. The only thing I didn’t ask about was Lin Zijie.
Remembering the lingering, affectionate look Qu Fang gave him just now, I thought: if I stole this rich second-generation guy right in front of her, wouldn’t she be even angrier?
Lin Ruijie was undeniably handsome: curled eyelashes, soulful eyes, a high-bridged nose, and wild, natural eyebrows that perfected his face. However, before I could say anything, he slowly revealed a prosthetic limb.
I paled in shock.
“Actually, the one communicating with you was me. The one dating Qu Fang was my brother, Lin Zijie. We look almost identical. He’s not disabled, but his grades aren’t great, so he uses my identity.”
I didn’t expect Lin Ruijie to answer my doubts before I even voiced them.
“Have you ever considered that Qu Fang and your father might not have a relationship based on seduction?”
“What do you mean?”
Compared to Lin Zijie, I was more focused on Lin Ruijie’s words. He stood up, shook his head, and left with the parting words, “I won’t hurt you.” My mind was a complete mess. Since he really had a brother, it proved my dad was right.
Both he and his brother were rich heirs.
So, if he wasn’t short on cash, why did he take my commission?
And what was his goal in getting close to me?
