Stumbling into a Trap Chapter 16

Chapter 16

“Don’t splash water. If you have something to say, I’m listening.”

Now, when he walked in, my first sentence was to prove I was paying attention to him.

Today, the usual unruliness had faded from his face, revealing a touch of gentleness. The youth had long eyelashes, looking as handsome as a figure in a painting.

He raised his hand, slowly reaching out to caress me, muttering to himself, “I didn’t want to hurt you.”

This seemed to turn back into the Lin Ruijie I knew.

I don’t remember what he said after that. I simply couldn’t hold on any longer and fell into a deep sleep. Finally, I was woken up by the long wail of police sirens. When the police handcuffed him and took him away, he was just sitting on the edge of the bed, his eyes filled with bloodshot veins.

I mumbled groggily, “He didn’t hurt me.”

When I was led away, my legs were like jelly, and my whole body was weak. I suppose he must have drugged the milk and food he gave me.

As I passed the living room, a phone with a lit screen sat on the table. It was the one I had bought for him.

The text message to the police glared piercingly into my eyes.

I was taken to the hospital. My mom came and secretly told me that my dad had leveraged all his money and ended up losing everything. He was also detained for illegal appropriation of assets.

“That little bitch dropped out. Someone exposed that she was a kept woman and got pregnant. To save its reputation, the school had to expel her. She went back to her rural hometown. Truly satisfying.”

I knew Lin Ruijie did all this. It was a pity I didn’t get to witness her downfall with my own eyes.

“Dad went bankrupt, and you can’t play mahjong anymore. What’s there to be happy about?”

My mom smiled mysteriously and leaned in to whisper, “Did you think your mom was just giggling like an idiot every day? Relying on men is the most useless thing. I transferred all the cash out of the house long ago to buy real estate. Now that the company and those few properties of his are best used to pay off debts, I have a perfect excuse to divorce him and find another man.”

Looking at my mom’s profile, it felt like I was meeting her for the first time.

I chuckled softly and said, “I still want to go abroad to study.”
