But twilight is near Chapter 20

Chapter 20

With the border in turmoil, the Emperor of Great Yin was furious. Under the pressure of public outcry and petitions from countless scholars and patriots, the Emperor actually stood up to Prime Minister Ren, ordered the execution of the Qing Kingdom’s envoy, and commanded the Prince of Guangling to set out for battle immediately.

Murong Feng set off for the battlefield without a moment’s delay.

He had known Luo Huanghun wouldn’t stay put, so he left Bai Zhi to watch over her.

Yet, Luo Huanghun still went missing. When Murong Feng received the news, his face turned icy, and he nearly lost his composure.

Despite his worry, he couldn’t turn back; the battle at the border was of vital importance, and there was no room for error.

When he returned to his command tent, he suddenly felt a shift in the air. He drew his sword, alert, but a second later, a soft, warm body threw itself into his arms.

Murong Feng broke into a cold sweat instantly; he had almost failed to pull back his blade in time, which could have hurt her.

“What are you doing on the battlefield? This is absolute madness!”

Luo Huanghun looked up at him, her eyes filled with mischief. “You are a master of strategy who can save the people of Great Yin, and I am a skilled physician who can save your life.”

“And not just yours—I will save your soldiers, and thousands upon thousands of Great Yin warriors.”

Luo Huanghun smiled faintly, her eyes clear and bright, reflecting only a sense of freedom.

The Luo Huanghun of this life would not be trapped in that grand mansion. She could see the world and do what she wanted to do. The medical skills her grandfather had taught her finally had a purpose.

Murong Feng could do nothing with her, so he could only punish her slightly with his own hands, leaving her breathless.

Afterward, Luo Huanghun changed into men’s clothing and became a military doctor for the Guangling Army.

Rumors began to circulate among the generals: their cold, heartless commander was always exceptionally gentle toward that thin, frail little military doctor.

The few who knew the truth would smile knowingly whenever they heard it; they were happy for their commander, as Murong Feng had been lonely for a long time.

Bai Zhi arrived shortly after, having been reassigned from Murong Feng’s side for her failure to keep watch. However, the way she looked at Luo Huanghun was much colder than before.

The battlefield this time was in Muyang, the place Murong Feng had chosen for the decisive battle. He was a genius at warfare; the reason he hadn’t completely defeated the Qing Kingdom earlier was not only to keep a path open for himself but also to wait for this final showdown.

The war drums sounded, and the battle began.

Murong Feng led the charge, his presence like that of a descending god, unstoppable wherever he went.

Luo Huanghun waited anxiously in the camp. It wasn’t until she heard the signal to retreat and saw that blood-soaked figure from afar that she finally let out a breath.

But when Murong Feng entered the tent, he collapsed before he could say a word to her.

Luo Huanghun immediately examined him and discovered that one of his wounds showed clear signs of poisoning. Soon, Murong Feng fell into a high fever.

The situation on the battlefield became deadlocked. The generals could only temporarily hide the fact that Murong Feng was injured while they scrambled to find an antidote.

That wasn’t the worst of it. Seeing that Murong Feng was winning battle after battle, the treacherous Prime Minister Ren, unwilling to give up, somehow persuaded the Emperor to send an imperial overseer to the camp.

In an instant, the Guangling Army was beset by troubles from both within and without.
