Synopsis
Rebirth’s Anywhere Door: The Plot’s Got Me Standing Tall
Luo Huanghun had died three months ago.
As a lone, wandering ghost, she drifted through the human world for nearly a hundred days, witnessing her family’s ruin and her relatives’ exile. She didn’t even know where she had drifted to, when she saw a brightly lit mansion not far away, and she couldn’t help but drift towards it.
Simply because she hadn’t seen such beautiful light for so, so long. Ever since she married Ren Jingsi, she had suffered daily neglect and oppression. In less than half a year, Ren Jingsi took a new bride, stripped her of her wife’s status, imprisoned her in a dark room, where she never saw the light of day. A year later, plagued by countless illnesses, her life force depleted, she wasted away and died of sorrow.
She eagerly drifted over to gaze at the radiance, but as soon as she drew near, a sharp pain shot through her brain, and she instantly lost consciousness.
When she awoke, she heard the soothing voice of a maidservant beside her ear: “Miss, why don’t we take off the phoenix coronet for now? We can put it back on when the young master comes into the courtyard.”
She blinked her eyes, unsure of where she was.
The moment Luo Huanghun saw the maidservant in front of her, her throat went dry, and she managed to croak: “Qing… Qingmei?”
The maidservant quickly smiled: “Don’t worry, Miss, I’m here, I’ve always been here.”
“Good, it’s good that you’re here. With you, I won’t even fear the Yellow Springs Road.”
She had thought she would walk the Yellow Springs Road as a lone, wandering ghost. She never expected to meet Qingmei, a maidservant as close as a sister to her.
“Pah, pah, pah! Miss, what nonsense are you spouting? Today is your big day, you absolutely mustn’t say such inauspicious things.” Qingmei quickly interjected. However, seeing Luo Huanghun’s dazed expression, she also sensed something was off. Her young mistress was always lively and spirited; she had never heard a single disheartening word from her since childhood.
“Big day?” Luo Huanghun then shook her head, taking in the surroundings at a glance: red silks hung everywhere, wedding candles glowed brightly, and the dazzlingly red wedding dress she wore. It was then that she slowly came to her senses and finally understood.
She then collapsed onto the table, her emotions a mix of joy and sorrow.
The joy was that she had been reborn. Heaven had eyes, knowing her lingering grievances after death, and thus granted her another chance.
The sorrow was that she had actually been reborn to her wedding night with Ren Jingsi!
If only it had been a day earlier—no, not even a day. Even if it was just a moment before the wedding ceremony, even if she were ridiculed by thousands, she would have surely lifted her veil and broken off this marriage with Ren Jingsi. After that, whether across mountains and rivers, or in life and death, they would never meet again.
In her previous life, when she married Ren Jingsi, it was a time of great splendor. Almost half the young women in the capital envied Luo Huanghun, not only because the Ren family was a chancellor’s manor with an illustrious lineage, but also because Ren Jingsi was a talented young man, gentle, handsome, deeply affectionate, and devoted.
Unfortunately, these were all just for show.
What truly belonged to Luo Huanghun was day after day of cold stares and mockery, night after night of sitting alone in an empty room. After their marriage, far from being a loving couple who respected each other, Ren Jingsi had never touched her, let alone shown her any tenderness.
Now that Heaven had taken pity on her and given her a chance, she dared not ask for anything else extravagant, but her family and friends must be protected. As for herself, she only wished to stay far away from Ren Jingsi, and from then on, live a peaceful and tranquil life.
“Miss, Miss…” Qingmei saw her expression was off and gently shook her: “Miss, there’s no need to be sad. Perhaps the young master drank too much, he’ll be here in a little while.”
“No need to wait.” Luo Huanghun stood up and began to remove her phoenix coronet and pearl hairpins: “Tell everyone to lock the courtyard gate, extinguish their lights, and get some rest.”
To Qingmei’s astonishment, Luo Huanghun calmly got into bed, closing her eyes with a serene expression.
Because she knew Ren Jingsi wouldn’t come.
At this moment, he was likely gazing at another woman with eyes as gentle as water, speaking of eternal vows, and sighing with endless longing.
