Chapter 3
Only when Luo Huanghun held the letter of divorce in her hands did she feel her heart finally settle back into her chest.
This way, she would no longer stand in the way of the woman Ren Jingsi truly wanted to marry.
Ren Jingsi let out a cold sneer and flicked his sleeves as he turned to leave, casting a meaningful, lingering look at Luo Huanghun before he departed.
Luo Huanghun kept her head down and her eyes averted, offering no argument. She knew exactly what Ren Jingsi was thinking.
He thought she was playing hard to get, that this was all just another one of her schemes.
Luo Huanghun looked up at the square patch of sky framed by the courtyard walls. Now, her only desire was to leave this place and sever all ties with Ren Jingsi and the Ren family forever.
The despair she had endured in that pitch-black secret room, where days and nights were forged from blood and tears—she never wanted to experience that again.
Luo Huanghun had wondered more than once how it had all begun, only to realize the mistake was utterly absurd.
Ren Jingsi had a perfect pedigree: his father was the powerful Prime Minister, his sister was a Noble Consort, and he himself was handsome and brilliantly talented. His name was a legend throughout the city, and countless young women dreamed of nothing but marrying him.
That day, as he rode past on the long street, Luo Huanghun had taken one look and fallen deeply, hopelessly in love.
The Luo family was the leader of the upright literati faction in court and had never seen eye-to-eye with the powerful Ren family. This friction only intensified after Luo Huanghun’s brother, Luo Chenhui, became the Commander of the Imperial Guard.
Ren Jingsi was a man of deep calculations who treated matters of the heart with cold indifference. He had nothing but contempt for Luo Huanghun’s pursuit of him.
Yet, just as Luo Huanghun was about to give up, she happened upon a drunken Ren Jingsi. In his stupor, he had lost his composure and called out a name: “Ling’er.”
Li Ling’er. Ling’er—the woman in Ren Jingsi’s heart, the one he could not marry.
If she had known then that the “Ling’er” he was calling for wasn’t her, Luo Huanghun would never have married into the Ren family.
Ren Jingsi never knew that Luo Huanghun’s childhood nickname was also Ling’er.
Because of that misidentified name, Luo Huanghun had become obsessed. So, when the Ren family came to propose marriage, even though the Luo family was reluctant to agree, they couldn’t sway Luo Huanghun’s stubborn insistence.
Luo Huanghun only learned the truth about Ren Jingsi and Li Ling’er after the wedding.
Back then, unable to defy his family, Ren Jingsi had directed all his hatred toward Luo Huanghun.
Meanwhile, Prime Minister Ren had already laid an inescapable trap, waiting for the Luo family to fall into it.
Recalling all this, Luo Huanghun’s heart trembled. It was true—she was safe for the moment, but the Luo family… the conspiracy against them hadn’t stopped for a single second.
The thought of her family falling into ruin because of her stubbornness brought a wave of bitterness to her heart. Her voice still carried a slight tremor as she spoke: “Pack our things. We’re going home.”
Qingmei looked at Luo Huanghun’s state and was momentarily stunned. “Miss, today isn’t the scheduled day for the bride’s return visit.”
Luo Huanghun remained silent for a moment, then looked up and said firmly, “The day after tomorrow, first thing in the morning, we go home.”

Chapter 3
Only after receiving this signed divorce agreement did Luo Huanghun feel her heart settle back into place.
This way, she wouldn’t stand in the way of the person Ren Jingsi truly wanted to marry.
Ren Jingsi scoffed and flicked his sleeves as he walked away, casting a meaningful look at Luo Huanghun before he left.
Luo Huanghun lowered her eyes, not bothering to argue. She knew what Ren Jingsi meant.
Ren Jingsi thought she was playing hard to get, that she was using schemes.
Luo Huanghun looked up at the square patch of sky within the courtyard. She only wanted to leave this place now, to have no more entanglements with Ren Jingsi or the Ren family.
She didn’t want to endure the despair she had felt while locked in that dark, sunless secret chamber, forged through days and nights of blood and tears, ever again.
Luo Huanghun had thought about the beginning of all this more than once, only to find the mistake utterly absurd.
Ren Jingsi had a perfect background: his father was a powerful Prime Minister, his sister was a Noble Consort, and he himself was handsome and talented. Legends of him filled the city, and countless young women dreamed of marrying him.
The day he rode his horse through the long street, Luo Huanghun had fallen deeply in love with him at first sight.
The Luo family were the leaders of the pure-minded officials in court and were at odds with the powerful Ren family. This friction intensified after Luo Huanghun’s brother, Luo Chenhui, became the commander of the Imperial Guard.
Ren Jingsi was deep and calculating, appearing indifferent to matters of the heart. He had scoffed at Luo Huanghun’s pursuit of him.
However, just as Luo Huanghun was about to give up, she happened upon a drunken Ren Jingsi. In his intoxicated state, he had lost his composure and called out the name “Ling’er.”
Li Ling’er. Ling’er—the woman Ren Jingsi loved, the woman he couldn’t marry.
If she had known back then that the “Ling’er” Ren Jingsi called out wasn’t her, Luo Huanghun never would have married into the Ren family.
Ren Jingsi never knew that Luo Huanghun’s childhood nickname was also Ling’er.
Because of that misidentified name, Luo Huanghun had become obsessed. So, when the Ren family came to propose, even though the Luo family didn’t want to agree to the marriage, they couldn’t withstand Luo Huanghun’s insistence.
Luo Huanghun only learned about Ren Jingsi and Li Ling’er after they were married.
Unable to fight his family at the time, Ren Jingsi had directed all his hatred toward Luo Huanghun.
And the Prime Minister had already laid a trap, just waiting for the Luo family to jump in.
Thinking of all this, Luo Huanghun’s heart trembled. Yes, she was safe for the moment, but the Luo family… the conspiracy against them had never stopped for a second.
At the thought of the Luo family declining because of her stubbornness, a sour ache rose in her heart. Her voice trembled slightly: “Prepare yourself; we are going home.”
Qingmei looked at Luo Huanghun, stunned: “Miss, it isn’t the day for the return visit yet.”
Luo Huanghun remained silent, then looked up and said firmly: “The day after tomorrow, early in the morning, we go home.”
