Chapter 10
I walked back to the hospital carrying that photo.
I suddenly remembered to call my mom and asked her why she wanted Chu Ge and me to be together.
“Silly child, you were only focused on chasing Zeng Yicheng back then. You were the only one who couldn’t see Chu Ge’s feelings for you. We, along with your Uncle Chu, knew about it years ago.”
My heart trembled. I pursed my lips, not knowing what to say.
“After you got together with Zeng Yicheng, Chu Ge went abroad. He never came back once all these years. This time, I was the one who called him.”
“He didn’t delay for a single moment and came straight back.”
By the time I returned to the ward, Chu Ge was still lying there quietly.
Memories flooded back. Many things I thought I had forgotten, I didn’t know since when, had been firmly etched in my heart.
The countless times Chu Ge hesitated to speak, and the way he looked at me…
In the end, he left without saying anything.
Was it just to step aside and let me be happy?
As I thought about it, I fell asleep resting on the edge of his bed. I held Chu Ge’s hand. It wasn’t as warm as before, but it was still just as broad.
Big enough to completely envelope my whole hand.
When I woke up, I was already sleeping on the bed, and Chu Ge was gone.
Just as I thought he had been in some sort of accident and frantically started searching for him, a nurse pushed him in on a wheelchair.
Chu Ge still had that lazy look about him. He said weakly, “You’re finally awake. You can really sleep. I don’t even know if I’m the patient or you are.”
My tears flowed uncontrollably. Chu Ge panicked immediately, and the nurse tactfully left the room.
I threw myself into his arms. Chu Ge hastily caught me. “Don’t cry, don’t cry. I’m perfectly fine, aren’t I?”
“Rebecca came by,” I said, watching him, not missing a single trace of his expression.
Chu Ge instantly grew vigilant. “What did she say?”
“She said you two spent a very wonderful time together, and that she’s never met a nicer man than you…”
Chu Ge massaged his forehead with a headache. “Wait, nothing happened between me and her. The African savanna is entirely desolate, there’s absolutely no way it could be ‘wonderful’!”
I looked at him without speaking, but a look of pleasant surprise slowly bloomed on Chu Ge’s face.
“Xiaoxiao, are you jealous?!”
He hugged me tightly. “This is great. Let me think about how we should celebrate getting together…”
I froze. So he knew everything.
My compliance and my settling—he knew it all.
He knew, but he never said a word.
My heart felt even more overwhelmed with mixed emotions.
