Chapter 9
Chu Ge had sustained head injuries. He underwent surgery, but the doctors said the prognosis wasn’t optimistic; it was very likely he might never wake up.
I kept vigil in the ward, praying for a miracle, praying he would wake up.
But when I came back from lunch one day, I saw a blonde beauty sitting by Chu Ge’s bed. She had sexy, wavy blonde hair and a low-cut red dress, looking incredibly bright and gorgeous.
Her hand was stroking Chu Ge’s face, looking very intimate.
It seemed Chu Ge hadn’t lacked female confidantes during his years abroad either.
For some reason, I suddenly felt a pang of suffocation in my chest, and I wanted to turn around and leave.
She saw me, sat up straight, and looked as if she completely understood everything. “So it’s you.”
I had no choice but to walk back in.
I found out her name was Rebecca. She met Chu Ge a few years ago while traveling in Africa. She was being harassed by local thugs at the time, and Chu Ge saved her.
“After that, we spent a very wonderful time together. I’ve never met a nicer man than Chu Ge…” Rebecca’s expression was full of reminiscence.
I glared at Chu Ge. If he were awake right now, he definitely would have been knocked unconscious by my stare.
“It’s a pity he always had someone in his heart.”
“Had what?” I asked absentmindedly.
Rebecca fell silent. Only then did I react and look at her.
She flipped her hair and gave a dazzling smile. “Do you want to come see something with me?”
I followed her to a house. Compared to Rebecca’s bright and gorgeous appearance, the decor was excessively plain.
She pulled out a box, took out a book from inside, and retrieved a photo.
When I saw this photo, I almost held my breath.
It was a picture of Chu Ge and me. It was taken at our high school graduation. He had an arm slung around my shoulders, while I looked impatient, trying to shake him off.
Time had frozen at that exact moment.
Caressing this photo, I stayed silent for a long time. The edges of the photo had already yellowed, yet it was preserved so well.
The person who kept it must have put a lot of heart into it.
“If it weren’t for his injury this time, you and I might never have met.” Rebecca curled her lips slightly, her expression still very nostalgic.
“Little girl, you make me incredibly jealous.”
