Chapter 47
Jin Lan didn’t come back with us.
He had an urgent meeting to attend.
His secretary drove Tuotuo and me home.
The secretary was a smooth driver, so I couldn’t help but try to make some small talk.
Maybe he was just too focused on the road, or perhaps he was just naturally aloof.
Or maybe he’d heard from others that I was an annoying woman.
He didn’t really engage with me.
Tuotuo tugged at me.
He whispered, “Don’t bother with this uncle, he’s rude.”
I was amused by Tuotuo.
“Remember, from now on, don’t be a picky eater.
“Wake up on your own in the morning, and learn how to dress and undress yourself.
“When you get home from school, don’t follow anyone you don’t know.”
Tuotuo turned his little head away and leaned against the car window.
His voice was small and muffled: “I know, I know.
“You’ve said that eight hundred times already.”
He watched the scenery for a while, then suddenly turned back to me.
“Mom, I want to eat the tomato and egg noodles you make.”
I was stunned for a moment, then smiled and replied, “Okay.”
