Stumbling into a Trap Chapter 14

Chapter 14

“Don’t worry, I’ll help you. Don’t clash with your dad. The more unreasonable you act, the more sensible Qu Fang looks.”

Lin Ruijie’s voice made me feel safe and secure. I was moved beyond words and choked out, “Thank you.”

After hanging up, I transferred another fifty thousand to him.

That made me feel slightly better.

He was right. I couldn’t be anxious, and I couldn’t mess up. I had to stay calm. I didn’t expect him to move so fast—about two weeks after our call.

My mom called me. “This is so satisfying! That little bitch had a miscarriage!”

‘Little bitch’ was my mom’s name for Qu Fang.

I asked nervously, “How did it happen?”

“A car bumped her, she got scared, and started bleeding on the spot. Sure enough, she couldn’t keep it. It’s truly satisfying. The driver was even from your school, named Lin something Jie.”

It was him! My heart trembled.

I rushed to the hospital. Assistant Sun was the only one in the ward, sighing heavily. My dad hadn’t even shown his face—typical of him.

Qu Fang lay in bed, pale and in pain.

Without the baby, she lost my dad and that so-called investor.

I suppressed the joy in my heart. Now, there was no need to put on an act with her anymore.

“You finally got the retribution you deserved.”

Two streaks of tears slid from the corners of her eyes. Slightly manic, she screamed at me, “Seeing me like this, are you happy now? Are you glad? What gives you the right to have money and looks, to live in such a nice house, while I have to squeeze into a tiny, twenty-square-meter old apartment with my parents, where there’s not even room to turn around to eat or use the toilet? My dad would even get drunk and beat me from time to time.”

I didn’t back down.

“That’s because you and your mom brought it upon yourselves! You stole my dad, and now you want to steal my family’s money! No way.”

She seemed to remember something and abruptly sat up in bed. “The postgraduate recommendation… the recommendation spot, was that you?! It was all you!”

I neither admitted nor denied it, just crossed my arms and watched her act like a clown.

She picked up a water cup next to her and threw it at me. I dodged, and her IV stand crashed to the floor.

After panting for a while, she abruptly changed the subject. “But don’t get too smug. If Lin Ruijie could dump me, naturally he can dump you too. Marrying a cripple, let’s see how good your life can possibly be.”

Wait, Lin Ruijie is a cripple?

Even though I was used to calling him Lin Ruijie, according to my dad, he was supposed to be Lin Zijie. Lin Zijie was using Lin Ruijie’s name to live at school, and the real Lin Zijie was supposed to be the one solely communicating with me on that phone.

“How… how did you know I was with him?”

“That day, at the dorm entrance, I saw you two.”

It was the day he was wearing the baseball cap. Qu Fang could have been mistaken.

I hurried out of the ward and called my dad. “Dad, how many sons does the Lin family have?”

His tone was still poor, his mood terrible. He grunted, “Just one, and he’s adopted.”

Whether it was Lin Ruijie or Lin Zijie, he had lied to me!

He didn’t have a twin brother at all. From the beginning, there was only one person.
