Chapter 2
I’ve known the Xie family since his ancestors’ time.
Xie Yu’s great-great-great-great-great-grandfather was just a boatman when I first became the river god.
He was a good, honest man, ferrying people across the river, accumulating good deeds and virtue.
During a great flood, he fell into the water trying to save a pregnant woman.
Originally, as a newly appointed god, I should have been making a big splash.
My master, the old river god, also taught me that I shouldn’t interfere in such matters, much less save people.
But I saved him anyway.
And then I received a heavy punishment.
After the boatman was rescued, he brought his whole family, old and young, to the riverbank to kowtow in gratitude.
He even built a River God Temple for me.
From then on, what seemed like a misfortune turned into a blessing. The incense in my temple flourished, and offerings never ceased.
As for the boatman’s family, they started a delivery business.
To this day, they’ve become the leading logistics giant in Zhou City.
Xie Yu’s grandfather was also saved by me.
