Chapter 52
My heart tightened as I rushed into the hallway, searching for any sign of Lu Chen.
There was no one in sight.
A wave of intense panic and utter bewilderment instantly crawled over my entire body.
I walked back into the hospital room, fumbling to find my phone in my bag.
I intended to call Lu Chen’s “girlfriend” to ask where he had gone, only to find that her number wouldn’t go through either.
An indescribable, suffocating pain gripped my heart.
Tears began to fall uncontrollably.
Suddenly, there was a “creak” behind me, followed immediately by the sound of a toilet flushing.
The bathroom door swung open.
I turned my head and froze.
Lu Chen was leaning against the doorframe, his eyelids drooping as he tied the drawstring of his sweatpants.
Seeing me, he looked me up and down with a complex expression.
Finally, he walked over, reached out, and pinched my cheek:
“Decided to switch back, have you?
“What’s with the mourning? I’m not dead yet.”
I buried my head straight into his chest, wiping my snot and tears all over him: “Yeah, yeah, sure.
“Some people, even on their deathbed, the stiffest thing about them would still be their mouth.”
Lu Chen chuckled, the vibration resonating through his chest. He caught my hands and took two steps forward.
I pressed against the wall: “What are you doing?”
He pinned me there, leaving me with nowhere to go:
“The stiffest thing about me is my mouth, are you sure?
“Do you want to… test that out?”
I couldn’t handle it.

Chapter 52
My heart tightened, and I rushed into the hallway to look for Lu Chen.
There was no one around.
A wave of intense panic and helplessness instantly washed over me.
I walked back into the hospital room and fumbled for my phone in my bag.
I intended to call Lu Chen’s “girlfriend” to ask where he had gone, only to find that her number wouldn’t go through either.
A dull, indescribable ache settled in my chest.
Tears began to fall uncontrollably.

Finally, he walked over to me and reached out to pinch my cheek:
“Finally decided to switch back, have you?
“What’s with the funeral wailing? I’m not dead yet.”
I buried my head directly into his chest, smearing snot and tears all over him: “Yeah, yeah, sure.
“Some people, even when they’re at death’s door, the stiffest thing about them is still their mouth.”
Lu Chen laughed, his chest vibrating against me. He grabbed my hand and took two steps forward.
I pressed against the wall: “What are you doing?”
He leaned in, pinning me so I couldn’t move:
“The stiffest thing about me is my mouth, are you sure?
“Do you want to… test that theory?”
I couldn’t handle it.
