Chapter 7
Luo Huang Hun awoke to find herself back in Ren Jing Si’s residence.
The room was silent. She was about to call Qing Mei to ask what was happening when she noticed Ren Jing Si sitting on a chair by the bed with an icy demeanor.
Ren Jing Si’s brows were tightly furrowed, his face cold as ice. “Luo Huang Hun, as my daughter-in-law, you can’t just run off like this, can you?”
Luo Huang Hun rubbed her sore throat. “You’re overthinking it, husband. I just took a stroll.”
Ren Jing Si didn’t believe her, sneering coldly, “A stroll? You twisted your foot, and your clothes are torn. Do you think I’m easy to fool?”
Luo Huang Hun hadn’t expected him to notice such details. She sighed, “We agreed to stay out of each other’s way, didn’t we?”
Ren Jing Si’s eyes bristled with anger. “That doesn’t give you permission to act recklessly!”
Luo Huang Hun slightly lowered her head, creating a graceful arc with her neck. “Yes, husband. I won’t do anything reckless. I’ll be mindful of our families’ reputations.”
Seeing Luo Huang Hun’s submissive posture, Ren Jing Si felt increasingly irritated. He couldn’t shake the feeling that something about her had changed.
He paced back and forth, suddenly realizing something.
Looking down at Luo Huang Hun, his words were sharp. “Are you trying to punish me? Because I wasn’t home the day of our wedding, you’re pulling this stunt of disappearing?”
Luo Huang Hun stared at him, bewildered. What punishment? She couldn’t care less about him anymore. She wanted to get as far away from the Ren family as possible.
It was time to put an end to his misunderstandings.
Luo Huang Hun lifted her head, her eyes sincere. “Husband, why don’t you take Li Rin into the main hall? Let her endure the hardship as a concubine first. In six months, she can become a proper wife.”
The room fell silent. After a long pause, Ren Jing Si’s voice cut through the air like ice. “Did you check on me?”
Luo Huang Hun sighed. “The servants in the Ren family have all been talking. Do I need to investigate?”
The world of aristocratic women wasn’t that big. Luo Huang Hun had always known about Li Rin, the unfavored concubine of the Ren family. But she had never known that Li Rin had been secretly meeting with Ren Jing Si—until that fateful wedding night in her previous life.
That day, Ren Jing Si had skipped their wedding night to visit Li Rin. The servants looked down on her, but they didn’t care enough to hold back their gossip, so she found out quickly.
Luo Huang Hun looked away, smiling softly. “I’ll send her to the side chambers. I’ll stay out of the way.”
Ren Jing Si’s face darkened as he glared at her. He managed to mutter, “Before, you clung to me and forbade other women. Now you’re letting her move in? What’s your reasoning?”
Luo Huang Hun slowly shook her head, almost laughing. Whenever Li Rin was involved, Ren Jing Si would get so flustered. But so what? She no longer cared.
She nodded calmly. “In the past, I was immature. Now I understand I shouldn’t interfere with your marital prospects.”
The consequence of dying in prison in her previous life—she never wanted to experience that again.
Whether it was Li Rin or anyone else, Luo Huang Hun had already initiated a divorce. All she needed was to find the private seal and leave the Ren family.
Ren Jing Si opened his mouth, but had nothing to say, and left in frustration.
Luo Huang Hun exhaled in relief, summoning Qing Mei to ask about her disappearance. She learned that it was actually Ren Jing Si who found her!
How was that possible?
Luo Huang Hun frowned. “Are you sure?”
Qing Mei’s expression was complicated. “Yes, Lord himself didn’t return for the afternoon. The young master thought you were familiar with the area and wouldn’t get into trouble, but Lord insisted on searching for you and found you in a cave.”
Luo Huang Hun froze. What did Ren Jing Si mean?
She thought about it—probably for the family’s reputation. After all, his daughter-in-law had gone missing; it wasn’t proper to let it spread.
Why would Ren Jing Si care about her?
Without thinking, Luo Huang Hun suddenly asked, “Was there only you in the cave?”
Qing Mei looked puzzled. “Of course, just you. Was there something else?”
Luo Huang Hun smiled. “I remember seeing a handsome white fox in there.”
I wonder how his injuries were… Has he been found by his enemies?
She lowered her head, tracing her lips, as if erasing the lingering heat of that kiss.
