Chapter 8
Luo Huang Hun and Ren Jing Si returned to the Ren family.
Before entering the compound, she glanced at the sky outside. Compared to the tiny area of the Ren family, the sky seemed so vast.
At this moment, a fierce longing for freedom surged through her. She couldn’t wait to leave the Ren family and be free.
Ren Jing Si ignored Luo Huang Hun, changing into fresh clothes before hurriedly departing. There was no need to guess—he was probably going to see Li Rin. Luo Huang Hun, bored, found an excuse to take Qing Mei out for a stroll.
Qing Mei disapproved of her bold behavior, but Luo Huang Hun was determined. She had never been one for rules and regulations, and ending up as she did in her previous life, it was better to do as she pleased.
But as they strolled, she happened to witness Ren Jing Si’s tenderness toward Li Rin.
In the teahouse, she sat by the window, watching her husband half-bend over a small, delicate woman, his face displaying a smile she had never seen before.
Qing Mei angrily exclaimed, “How could Lord be so shameless? You’ve only just married him, yet he’s openly associating with another woman!”
What kind of association? Li Rin would soon be joining the Ren family as a concubine.
Luo Huang Hun laughed and patted her hand lightly, not paying attention. “In Ren Jing Si’s eyes, I’m the other woman.”
Qing Mei stomped her foot in frustration, but Luo Huang Hun heard a conversation from another table.
“…Why is the return of the Prince Guang Ling so quiet? There’s not even a hint of news, not to mention the Emperor’s reward.”
“The achievements were too great. There’s nothing to reward. How could you reward your ass—”
“Li Brother, be careful with your words!”
After a moment of silence, the voice of Li Brother came through with a sigh. “The Prince Guang Ling’s situation is precarious…”
The conversation continued, but Luo Huang Hun’s mind went blank.
This didn’t add up!
She clearly remembered, in her previous life, Mu Rong Feng, the Prince Guang Ling, had achieved great victories but never returned. Instead, he died from a sneak attack by enemy remnants.
Luo Huang Hun’s heart suddenly lightened. If Mu Rong Feng’s fate could be changed, then surely her own fate—and the Luo family’s—could be altered as well!
Feeling more at ease, she continued listening to the others talk about his exploits, growing curious about this Mu Rong Feng.
The Emperor wouldn’t dare not give a reward; otherwise, he couldn’t silence the chatter.
Indeed, soon Emperor Yin issued an imperial decree: to celebrate the Prince Guang Ling’s return from victory, a three-month hunting expedition at Yan Ling Ridge would be held, with the Emperor, princes, and high officials in attendance.
The Ren family and the Luo family were both on the list.
