My Life is Not Yours to Control Chapter 13

Chapter 13

The days I spent with Chu Ge were incredibly happy. It felt as if I had returned to those carefree years.

But I knew this carefreeness didn’t come without a price; it was just that Chu Ge was shielding me from it all.

I suddenly wanted to go see what the savanna Rebecca and Chu Ge talked about looked like.

Having lived by the rules for so many years, I also wanted to let loose for a bit before resuming work.

Chu Ge agreed without a second thought. He never had any objections to my requests, so much so that even my mom couldn’t bear to watch sometimes.

We arrived at the airport. Right before boarding, I suddenly caught a glimpse of a suspicious figure.

A woman wearing sunglasses and a hat kept looking in our direction.

I thought she looked a bit familiar. Just as I was wondering who it was, she suddenly charged at us. Just as she was about to reach us, she pulled out a knife from her coat.

In a flash of lightning, I recognized her—it was Ning Kexin!

Just when I thought she was going to attack me, she pivoted and lunged at Chu Ge.

“Go to hell! You ruined me, so don’t even think about living!”

I watched in despair as Chu Ge was stabbed. It was then that the security guards finally arrived and subdued Ning Kexin.

She was still cursing like a madwoman. With trembling hands, I checked on Chu Ge’s condition. I patted him down for a long time but couldn’t find where he was hurt.

Chu Ge gave me a weird look. “Stop feeling me up, I’m fine.”

Seeing that I hadn’t stopped, he whispered, “If you keep touching me, something is going to happen.”

I glared at him but breathed a sigh of relief. If he could still joke around, that meant he really was fine.

Chu Ge pulled a box out of his pocket and looked at me somewhat awkwardly. “I was originally going to…”

I opened the box and saw the rings inside.

It was a pair of wedding bands, with his and my names engraved inside.

I suddenly burst out laughing.

It was just that our trip to the savanna got delayed. Chu Ge and I had to go to the police station for questioning.

It was then I learned that after Ning Kexin was exposed by Chu Ge, her father failed to secure financial support from Zeng Yicheng and absconded with the remaining funds.

The creditors tracked down Ning Kexin, demanding she pay her father’s debts. She suffered immensely while hiding and running, and believed Chu Ge was to blame for everything, which was why she wanted revenge on him.

Chu Ge held my hand as we walked out of the police station.

“This is exactly what they mean by good is rewarded with good, and evil is rewarded with evil. If she had just asked to borrow money properly, Zeng Yicheng might not have refused to help her, but she just had to resort to those underhanded schemes.”

I pulled out my phone. “There’s another flight to Africa in an hour…”

“Hurry, hurry! I can’t wait to spend some one-on-one time with you!”

Chu Ge grabbed my hand and started sprinting.
