Chapter 5
By the time we got back, my mood had settled down. Just as I was about to close my door, Chu Ge slipped inside.
Before I could react, he had already closed the door behind him.
Chu Ge looked at me innocently. “I just got back to the country. I haven’t sorted out a place to live yet.”
“I’m going to take a shower first, I’m exhausted.” Right after, he familiarly made his way to the bathroom.
I shook my head, the corners of my mouth involuntarily curling up. His personality really seemed exactly the same as before.
I ordered some takeout. Not long after, the doorbell rang. When I opened the door, I realized the person standing there wasn’t a delivery driver.
Zeng Yicheng was standing outside.
He looked exhausted, as if he had been rushing around for a long time.
Well, yes, he had to manage his company affairs while coaxing his first love; how could he not be tired?
“Xiaoxiao, I’m here to explain things to you, I…”
I took a step back, flashing a polite smile. “Mr. Zeng, I’m not interested in your affairs, and you don’t need to explain anything to me.”
Perhaps shocked by my formal address, Zeng Yicheng eagerly stepped forward. At that moment, the bathroom door opened.
I stared dumbfounded as Chu Ge walked out wearing nothing but a bath towel. When he saw Zeng Yicheng, instead of avoiding the situation, he narrowed his eyes and curved his lips into a smile.
“Isn’t it a bit inappropriate for you to come bother us this late at night?”
Zeng Yicheng left with a pale face.
I looked at Chu Ge helplessly. “Why did you have to do something that causes misunderstandings…”
Chu Ge suddenly leaned close to me. I could practically smell the scent of his body wash mixed with his body heat—it was my favorite freesia scent.
The air temperature rapidly rose due to the ambiguity.
He said softly, “What if I said I hope this isn’t a misunderstanding?”
My heart trembled. Looking up, I caught his expression. Chu Ge’s face was utterly devoted; he was looking at me earnestly, as if wanting an answer.
The doorbell rang again, and I hastily turned my head away. “The takeout is here.”
Chu Ge let out an “Oh.” No matter how you listened, there was a tinge of disappointment in his voice.
I, on the other hand, let out a breath of relief and practically fled.
Afterward, Chu Ge sprawled carelessly on my sofa, eating his takeout while smiling thoughtfully at me.
“I have an idea. Do you want to hear it?”
Chu Ge was different from me. He was used to being free and unrestrained, doing whatever came to his mind.
But this time, after hearing his words, I actually didn’t object.
I took a deep breath. “Okay, but I’ll do the planning.”
He shrugged and let out a chuckle, which counted as an agreement.
I looked up at the calendar. That day was approaching soon. The day I died in the car crash. The day I saw Zeng Yicheng betray me with my own eyes.
