Chapter 6
When that day arrived, I deliberately wore the same clothes, but my state of mind was completely different.
I hadn’t contacted Chu Ge. Since that day, he had been acting elusive anyway.
I was going to personally put an end to things with Zeng Yicheng and my past self.
I knew clearly that if I couldn’t get past this hurdle, I wouldn’t be able to truly be reborn; I would live in a nightmare forever.
I arrived outside the restaurant early, only to surprisingly see Ning Kexin, who had arrived even earlier. She was pacing back and forth outside, seemingly trying to gauge some angles.
At this moment, just like last time, I received a message from my friend.
Soon, Zeng Yicheng arrived as well. He didn’t look as high-spirited as before either.
They entered the restaurant. Ning Kexin was smiling and saying something to him, but suddenly her expression stiffened. Soon, she looked on the verge of tears, appearing extremely pitiable.
She took out the ring and handed it to Zeng Yicheng. Instead of taking it, Zeng Yicheng got up to leave, and Ning Kexin stood up to follow him.
She stumbled a bit, and Zeng Yicheng caught her. The two of them walked toward the hotel next door.
Things seemed different from before…
A bold speculation formed in my mind. I stood up abruptly, and then I saw Ning Kexin go in to kiss him, and he didn’t refuse.
I closed my eyes, completely deleting the chaotic emotions in my mind.
Even knowing this was deliberately staged by Ning Kexin for me to see, Zeng Yicheng still hadn’t rejected her intimacy.
Zeng Yicheng’s phrase, “Working overtime tonight, I won’t be coming back,” was also true.
Without a sliver of hesitation left, I walked forward. Amidst Zeng Yicheng’s panicked gaze, I smiled slightly.
“There’s nothing left to explain this time, is there?”
Zeng Yicheng opened his mouth but couldn’t formulate a single word.
“Zeng Yicheng, I used to chase after the shining, radiant you, neglecting myself in the process. Now I know, you were never that dazzling. It was only because there was light in my eyes when I looked at you.”
Sweeping my gaze over the two of them, I said softly, “I wish you both a long life together. Don’t ever come pestering me again.”
Along with the past—be it sweet or hurtful—none of it shall ever enter my dreams again.
