The next day, she nonchalantly started getting ready for her date with Lin Ruijie. I took out my phone, went to the balcony, and whispered, “Are you ready? Make sure the photos are clear!”

A deep male voice came through the receiver, “Don’t worry.”

Standing upstairs, I stared at Qu Fang’s swaying back as she walked away, thinking to myself: I just want her to leave my dad, that’s all.

Things moved quickly. By evening, the photos were sent over, and the person texting me was none other than Lin Ruijie.

That Lin Ruijie—the rich second-generation heir that Qu Fang and the whole school thought he was—was a persona I had created for him.

A year ago, after finding out about Qu Fang, I hired a guy, gave him money to package himself, and he hadn’t disappointed me. He successfully bagged her.

The woman in the photos had a graceful figure; the two were in intimate poses, getting handsy right on the street, and there were even shots of them entering and leaving a hotel together. Gripping my phone, I plotted how to broach the subject with my dad.

Early Sunday morning, I went home. It was my first time back since returning to the country.

Unsurprisingly, my unreliable mom had gone off to play mahjong again.

I headed to the study, having already checked with Assistant Sun to make sure my dad would be home today.

“What’s up?”

Even though money can mold a person’s aura, I could feel my dad’s middle-aged greasy vibe all the way from the doorway. Money really makes the world go round.

I didn’t waste words. I took the developed photos of Lin Ruijie’s self-directed performance from last night and placed them in front of my dad.

“Hmm, the angles are pretty good.”

I was taken aback by his calmness. Did he know all along?
