Chapter 6
“What, curious why I’m reacting like this?”
My dad leaned back in his boss chair and took a sip of tea, looking entirely unbothered.
“This young man is the only grandson of the Lin family’s current generation. Lately, that plot of land in the south has been giving me a massive headache. Little Qu volunteered, saying she knew Lin Zijie and could get close to him to snag whatever intel she could.”
What kind of insane plot twist was this?
The person in the photos was clearly Lin Ruijie! I had even looked into him: his family background was poor, and he fought in underground boxing matches. I was giving him money to support himself, so he could in turn string Qu Fang along.
How did he suddenly become Lin Zijie? I was very cautious; my investigation couldn’t have been wrong.
“Little Qu and I have a very pure superior-subordinate relationship. I don’t know where you got these photos, but you just focus on your studies and stop meddling in things that don’t concern you! If there’s nothing else, get out.”
I silently shut my mouth and scrambled out.
In my memories, my father was always stern and unsmiling. When I was young, other kids’ dads were kind and generous, while mine only ever wore a face full of irritation and gloom. Even now, I had never once visited my grandmother’s house for the New Year, simply because I was a girl.
I stood outside the study, rolling my eyes at the closed door, and took out my phone to call Lin Ruijie.
For the sake of secrecy, I had even bought him this phone.
“Didn’t we agree to avoid calling as much as possible?”
Good thing I wasn’t obsessed with voices; this man’s tone was incredibly pleasant, making me zone out every time.
The interrogation that was on the tip of my tongue was swallowed back. If I confronted him now, he definitely wouldn’t admit it.
My original goal in hiring him was to break up my dad and Qu Fang.
Since this was my dad’s deliberate plan, I didn’t need Lin Ruijie anymore.
“Hello?”
I snapped out of it. “Oh, right, so here’s the thing. I’ve got the photos. You don’t need to keep acting with Qu Fang anymore. Find a chance to break up with her.”
“Okay.”
His decisiveness puzzled me, and what confused me even more was that they actually broke up the very next day.
Qu Fang hadn’t even achieved her goal yet; why would she be willing to break up?
